Pet dental check-ups

vet examining dog's teeth and mouth

We take oral healthcare very seriously. We offer full-scale dental care from routine cleanings and dental x-rays to extractions—if needed.

How often do you check your furry friend’s molars? Did you know that 80% of dogs and 70% of cats over the age of three have some form of dental disease? Dental disease can be painful for your pets: if left untreated the process to clean or remove teeth can grow complicated.

Signs of dental disease include:

  • Bad breath
  • Loose teeth
  • Bleeding or inflamed gums
  • Excessive drooling
  • Facial swelling

During a dentistry appointment with us you can expect the following:

  • Your pet will be put under anesthetic and monitored carefully for your peace of mind.
  • Extractions may occur but these are done at the doctor’s discretion.
  • Tooth cleaning and fluoride applications are provided for all our dental patients.
  • We provide geriatric dental work which includes IV fluids and pre-operative blood work.
  • We chart all dental work performed. Dental radiographs are also available.
  • All our patients receive adequate pain control and antibiotics post-operatively.

As with humans, brushing daily can help control the build-up of plaque however, human toothbrushes and toothpaste are not recommended for pets. Specially made dog and cat toothbrushes do exist, as does chicken and beef flavoured toothpaste. Specific diets, treats, bones and chews all help maintain the results from a dental cleaning.
